Track Name: New Carrollton
Please give us a sign
tell us it will be alright
giving up the fight
a vision that was torn apart
turning back to streetside art
see the history
Old New Carrollton for free
shown a single scene
someone saw the people demeaned
others saw the legacy

Hey Jim don’t you give up now
there’s a lot more ways you can help this town
I said hey Jim if you leave us alone
we’re gonna miss you til you come on home
I said hey Jim we apologize
for all the philistines who couldn’t see before their eyes
that when you paint your panels to your heart’s delight
you shouldn’t have to worry how you’re gonna sleep at night

Why bother to dream?
How did we get so unclean?
When will we achieve
everything that we deserve?
Who among us has the nerve?

Hey Jim don’t you give up now
there’s a lot more ways you can save this town
I said hey Jim if you leave us alone
we’re gonna miss you til you come on home
I said hey Jim we apologize
for all the philistines who couldn’t see before their eyes
that when you paint your panels to your heart’s delight
you shouldn’t have to worry how you’re gonna sleep at night
we didn’t mean to be so unAmerican
we’re gonna put ya back up on the Sheraton

Small town, everything has a place now...

End of the line

They tried to take us to the horses
you should honor your agreements
she was the last of her kind on the train
a solitary trip among many every day

When the sandstorm swept the desert we turned the tennis court into a hospital
Mr. President keeps his airplane here

End of the line
Track Name: Shady Grove
5AM on Monday I'm running out the door
sit on I-270 an hour, maybe more
got my house in Fredneck with 5 beds and 4 bath
and tell myself that one day I will have the last laugh

My dreams go for miles and miles
they don't end though I've been through some tough trials
I won't stand for your foolish denials
and you’re never gonna keep me down
no, my dreams are bigger than this town

You tried to make me think you were the best I could do
told me lots of stories, not a one of them was true
standing on the platform, staring at the track
Shady Grove to Union, hell I’ll never look back

Each stop it’s like my life passes me by
Time to make a change I’ve got to try
Track Name: Huntington
Contrabands and Freedmen
lost for many years
property constructed,
the underground in tears

Find the Gladwin record
and find the history
of slaves who found their freedom,
disease and poverty
1800 perished buried in the ground
memorial erected
Track Name: Vienna
Internal affairs digging up numbers
From the M to the B to the A to the FBI
In the big big apple, he placed a call to the reds
And he made a lot of money selling out his fellow feds

In Foxstone Park was a dead drop site
Moving in moving out moving up with the KGB
There’s a big big pile of cash in the dresser drawer
The warning fell on deaf ears when the supervisors wanted more

The wall came down winning one for the gipper
And the U to the S to the S to the R broke up
But the big big story ten years down the line
Was in 2001 they caught the famous super master spy

Super Master Spy
Super Master Spy
Back in 2001 they caught the famous super master spy
Track Name: Glenmont
Sodium in glass, lighting the hall
Never breaking, nighttime to rest

All I see are endless gardens
All they need is chlorophyll
Butterflies and caterpillars
Learning of the metamorphosis
Flying on their wings of fancy
Let them take you all around this park

I am leaving home, clothes on my back
Sleeping in my coat to stay warm, wanting for heat

All they see is no future, all I see are bright big things
Photographs and written stories
History is coming back to life
Traveling and loving language
sharing songs so far around the world

All I see are endless gardens, all they need is chlorophyll
Butterflies and caterpillars, learning of the metamorphosis
Flying on their wings of fancy, let them take you all around this park
I am leaving home
Track Name: Largo
I wanna ride on a roller coaster
I wanna feel the wind in my hair
Six Flags over Largo, Maryland
No time for the wimpy or scared

Wild one and a mind eraser
Is all I need to cure my blues
Great chase and a mighty roar
Besides lunch, there’s nothing to lose

I want to feel the caress of steel
Pulsing through me like it should
Even though I like both kinds,
My favorite’s made of wood

Wild one and a mind eraser
Is all I need to cure my blues
Great chase and a mighty roar,
Besides lunch, there’s nothing to lose

Climbing ever higher til we get to the top of the hill
Never knew another way to capture a magical thrill
I’m a front row warrior, so gravity do what you will
Track Name: Greenbelt
Greenbelt, Greenbelt
any kind of weather
Greenbelt, Greenbelt
people having fun
Greenbelt, Greenbelt
we all work together
Greenbelt, Greenbelt
we live and breathe as one

then there was the time that they made a music video
synchronized swimming and a face on a stick made a cameo
you must have had to eat a lot of popsicles to make that video

then there was the time that Eleanor planned this suburbia
cause what’s a New Deal without a way out of the urbia?
if the Bachelor and Bad Actress have their way they would call it New Bernia
Track Name: Wiehle-Reston
a million square feet of outer space
trapped between walls in this place
before the distillery it’s clear
Wiehle was here

man’s first step and it began
one small step into Lake Anne Lord
Fairfax once owned this land
silver lines drawn in the sand

all of the beauty and his grace
found hung in a jail near this place
before the big mezzanine my dear
Wiehle was here

conceived as planned community
brought to life by Robert E.
had recently sold Carnegie
highest conductivity

not the end eventually
eventually this end will leave

Jackson Graham of Mosier, Oregon, Corps of Engineers
he’s a man that we could talk about over several beers
retired from the army, he was a Major General
then a few weeks later he was WMATA’s first General Manager

Went to work with father as he was building Golden Gate
after OSU his army exam score was first rate
Europe and Korea, units in combat and in aviation then
back home chief of personnel in charge of projects over fourteen states

the train sighs and kicks on down the line
please oh please don’t you leave me here behind

Sometimes we get busy and it’s so easy to forget
I admit I too am guilty so let’s just take a sec
recognize the people trying to make this system go
you won’t see them in the paper as often as you see the head honcho

Managers of stations help you to navigate the map
hundreds of custodians keep the place free and clear of trash
Operators in the driver’s seat make sure you get home
law enforcement officers keep you safe when you are riding all alone

the train sighs and kicks on down the line
please oh please don’t you leave me here behind

I have always tried to be a believer in this system
I was never one to make a fuss
hopefully we start to see all the changes we’ve been promised
sometimes it just gets to be too much

the train sighs and kicks on down the line...
